Saul Made King [1 Samuel 10:20-22]

20 "When Samuel had all Israel come forward by tribes, the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot. 21 Then he brought forward the tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan, and Matri's clan was taken. Finally, son of Kish [Saul] was taken. But when they looked for him, he was not to be found. 22 So they inquired further of the Lord, 'Has the man come here yet?' And the Lord said, 'Yes, he has hidden himself among the supplies.' 🫣

Saul is literally about to be announced as King of Israel in front of everyone. Instead of being distinguished and set apart from everyone else, Saul hides himself among those whom he is supposed to rule over.

Have you ever demoted yourself from a superior position you were intentionally called to serve? 🤔

For example, you know when you're working on a group project at work or at school, and someone in your group asks, "Who's going to be responsible for *larger, important task*?" And you know you are the most competent to complete that task because it requires a certain level of critical thinking and attention to detail that no one else in the group has? Did you take your role and stand out from the others in your group, or did you hide among them?

What is that thing that stops you from standing in your differentiated calling? Is it fear of failure, success, or what people may say? And we've already established that confidence isn't arrogant, 💁‍♀️ so we know it can't be that. What is that inner dialogue in your head saying that prevents you from assuming your distinguished responsibilities?

Ask God. And don't get discouraged; that voice of timidity isn't yours. It just wants to stop you from rightfully claiming what's already yours.
