Get a pen/pencil because today is strictly for content. Get ready to take some notes.

Today we are reading from the book Pray First: The Transformative Power of a Life Built on Prayer by Chris Hodges.

God = three persons

  1. Father

  2. Son

  3. Holy Spirit

"Understanding each holy person in the trinity not only increases your grasp of who God is-- it also helps you pray. Each person in the Godhead has a different, distinct role" [Hodges, 2022, p. 61].

Jesus

"Jesus is the mediator, the intercessor between us and God. Christ connects us to our Father. Through Jesus, we have access to Almighty God.

Jesus intercedes and expresses our prayers through His unique viewpoint--

He is the only member os the Trinity" (God as 3 persons in One) "to live as a human being on earth" [Hodges, 2022, p. 62].

Read Hebrews 4:15.

"The price Jesus paid at the cross makes it possible for us to speak with God in all three persons" [Hodges, 2022, p. 63].

God the Father

"The Father's lavish love for us was the catalyst for sending Jesus to earth as a man to free us of the debt of sin that we could never permanently pay ourselves.

Unfortunately, our associations with our earthly fathers can pollute our view of our heavenly father. And our view of God determines our relationship with God.

We need a right view of God the Father to have a right relationship with Him" [Hodges, 2022, p. 64].

"Viewing God as our Father results in approaching Him with our worship. This attitude is one of submission, reverence, honor, and respect" [Hodges, 2022, p. 64].

Holy Spirit

"He is the person who indwells you with God's presence all the time. You pray to Jesus and to the Father, but the Spirit goes with you. He's the friend accompanying you every step of the way" [Hodges, 2022, pp. 67-69].

"Focusing on communion with the Holy Spirit is like being with your best friend all day long" [Hodges, 2022, p. 629.

"He is your friend, advocate, champion, guardian, and an additional kind of intercessor.

The Holy Spirit fortifies you when you're struggling and gives you the power to resist temptation" [Hodges, 2022, p. 69].

Read John 14:26 and Romans 8:26
